                                    (For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones).

 We welcome everyone to the year 2018. We believe that with the Spirit of prayer assisting or helping our infirmities, we can now pray down great things for ourselves and others. This month, we are taking up another series . This time, on the CHURCH. There is a lot of Misunderstanding and misconceptions about the Church. Therefore the Holy Spirit of God wants to throw some light even on this area. Therefore be open so you can get instructions and through instructions, insight and with insight enter into doing exploits.

Today, our topic is: “THE CHURCH, THE BODY OF CHRIST. As usual, 3 sub-titles will help us to have more understanding of the topic.

  1. MEANING OF THE CHURCH Col. 1:18, 24; Eph. 5:23-32; Acts 20:28

The word CHURCH, is taken or got from the Greek word Ecclessia. It means the CALLED ONES. So it means people and not just the place of Worship. These people are referred to as the body of Christ. Christ is the Head, then the people who respond to the call form His body. The Church therefore is a body of people who are (i) Called out of the World (ii) Called from Sin and Satan  (iii) Called to be Sons and Daughters  (iv) Called unto Holiness  (v) Called with Other to Form the Body  (vi) Called to be with God and (vii) Called For a Purpose – For His Praise and the Proclamation of the Gospel.
Isaiah 1:18; Matt. 11:28-30; John 1:11,12.

  1. MEMBERSHIP OF THE CHURCH: John 1:11-13; Acts 2:37-41, 47; Acts 20:20, 21, 28;
    1 Pet. 1:18,1923; John 3:1-7; Acts 3:19; 4:12.

Membership of the Church is different from membership of a denomination. We have just seen that the Church is the body of Christ the Holy Son of God. See Titus 2:14. The Body of Christ, the Church is made up of people who have realized they were sinners, repented from all sins, renounced all the works of Satan and received Jesus as personal Lord and Saviour. Such a person must be Born-Again. See 1 John 3:8-10.

After he has turned from Satan to God and demonstrated faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, he then submits himself to Water Baptism by Immersion, declaring to all that he is now part of the Body of Christ, ready to walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit, in Newness of Life. Let me ask you please; have you repented from all your sins? Have you rejected all the works of the devil? When will you turn to God and be Born Again? Listen, “Except a Man be Born-Again he cannot see the Kingdom of God”. See 2 Tim. 2:19. Unless you are born again, you are a strange body in the Body the Church.

  1. MAINTENANCE OF THE CHURCH: Acts 20:27-32; Eph. 4:11-16; Heb. 10:25 1 Pet. 2:2;
    Acts 2:41-47

The Church, the body of Christ is maintained by the Holy Spirit using his Servants, the Ministers of the Gospel, Teaching and Nurturing them with the Word and Prayers. The individual members therefore must avail themselves of these by presenting themselves. (i) to be taught  (ii) to regular meetings – fellowship  (iii) prayers – both personal and corporate. He must learn to join with others and endeavour to be in fellowship with them for more benefits. He must not isolate himself from others

The meetings and programmes of the Church are meant to maintain and sustain the Body. Therefore be at the Bible Studies, Prayer Meetings, Holy Ghost Festival, Sunday Services and other special programmes.

Get involved to be alive in the Body.
