From our text, the difference between grace and gifts has been clearly spelt out. Jacob wanted grace from Esau he had offended when he stole his birthright and his blessings. Here, we can see that gifts represented all the material things we present as an offering to God who Himself has enough – Genesis 33:9. God Himself is the giver of all things both physical and spiritual gifts to mankind – Psalm 50:10-12; 1 Corinthians 1:5-7; James 1:17. In this message, we shall consider the place of grace and gift in the believers’ life.
1. GRACE BEFORE GIFT: Gen. 33:8,9; Eph. 2:8,9.
Jacob sent gifts to Esau but could not buy his favour. Esau’s free favour came before his gifts were accepted. This should be the godly order – Isaiah 1:10-20. Have you found God’s unmerited favour?
2. GIFTS WITHOUT GRACE: Mathew 7:15-23; 1 Corinth. 13:1-3.
3. GRACE AND GIFTS: Mathew 25:14-30; John 6:27; Romans 5:16-18.
